Finviz is the free screener most US investors bookmark first. It filters thousands of stocks by criteria and shows the whole market's flow as a single map.
1. Core use — the Screener
Under the Screener tab you can combine dozens of filters — market cap, P/E, dividend yield, volume, distance to 52-week highs — to narrow down exactly the names you want. For example, "market cap over $10B + P/E under 15 + yield over 3%" surfaces undervalued dividend stocks in one pass.
2. The Heat Map
The Maps menu draws every S&P 500 stock as a rectangle sized by market cap and colored green (up) or red (down). You can read which sectors money is rotating into — and out of — in seconds.
3. A good workflow
- Morning routine: check the heat map for today's strong sectors, then use the Screener to narrow names within them.
- Pair with news: on a mover, open its detail page for the news and financials tabs.
- Watchlists: even a free account can save portfolios and watchlists.
